Operation of the central network infrastructure connecting all Jade University locations and forming the technical foundation for all IT services.
The university network connects the three locations Wilhelmshaven, Oldenburg, and Elsfleth and provides fundamental infrastructure services: DNS name resolution, NTP time service, network monitoring, and wired network authentication (Software-Defined Access). New devices in PC Network System (WORK-PCVS-1.0) are delivered fully preconfigured. Department and lab servers can be integrated into the network infrastructure after consultation with the IT center (COMM-HELPDESK).
Please Note:
SDA configuration for Windows (existing devices):
1. Services → 'Wired AutoConfig' → Start type: Automatic
2. Ethernet adapter → Properties → Authentication:
- Enable IEEE 802.1x: activate
- Method: Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)
- Trusted root CA: Hellenic Academic and Research Institutions RootCA 2015
- Authentication method: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
- Credentials: username (e.g. ab1234) and password
SDA configuration for Ubuntu Linux (GNOME):
Network → Wired → Security:
- 802.1x security: enabled
- Authentication: PEAP
- Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
- Username: domain login (e.g. ma1150@hs-woe.de)
Device on the Jade University network
Included services:
- DNS name resolution – DNS/DHCP cluster in Wilhelmshaven, automatic distribution to clients. Manual DNS server: 139.13.250.66
- NTP time service – Two highly precise, GPS-synchronized time servers LANTIME M300 (Meinberg) in Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. Configuration: time.jade-hs.de, port 123. Devices in PC Network System (WORK-PCVS-1.0) are automatically synchronized. Access to external time synchronization sources is blocked for security
- Network monitoring – Monitoring via PRTG (Paessler) for system status
- Software-Defined Access (SDA) – 802.1x network authentication for wired connections. Configuration: PEAP/MSCHAPv2, root CA 'Hellenic Academic and Research Institutions RootCA 2015'. New devices in the PC network system are delivered fully preconfigured
Department/lab servers can be integrated into the network infrastructure – consultation with COMM-HELPDESK required.
